Contributory Parent Visas
The Contributory Parent Visa scheme allows parents with eligible children to come to Australia. Parents must satisfy the balance of family test and must be sponsored by an eligible child (usually a settled Australian citizen or permanent resident).
There are two pathways:
- Temporary Visa: This visa is valid for up to 2 years and the cost starts at around $31,500 per applicant. The benefit of the temporary visa is that you are able to convert the temporary visa to the permanent visa, which makes the financial cost more manageable in comparison to the direct Permanent Visa route (see next).
- Permanent Visa: This is the direct permanent visa option for parents, and the cost starts at around $47,120 per applicant.
In addition to the above visa application fees, the Department of Immigration may request an Assurance of Support, to be held for 10 years ($10,000 for the main applicant and $4,000 for each secondary adult applicant).
Alternatively, a Visitor Visa may be more appropriate if shorter trips to Australia are intended.
